Some football shirts become more than just a symbol of a season. They become part of a story. The AC Milan 2006/07 Away Jersey is one of those shirts — the white jersey worn during one of the greatest European nights in the club’s history.

The Story Behind the Jersey

The 2006/07 season was far from simple for AC Milan. After a difficult start and the consequences of the Calciopoli scandal, the Rossoneri had to fight their way back into Europe. But once the Champions League began, Carlo Ancelotti’s side found its rhythm.

Milan eventually reached the final in Athens, where fate brought them back together with Liverpool — the same opponent that had defeated them in the unforgettable 2005 Istanbul final.

And Milan chose white.

On 23 May 2007, at the Olympic Stadium in Athens, the Rossoneri walked onto the pitch wearing this white away shirt. UEFA noted that Milan deliberately selected the white kit because it had been worn in five of their previous six European Cup triumphs — their famous maglia fortunata, or lucky shirt.

This time, the story would be different.

Liverpool took part in another European final against Milan, but there would be no comeback this time. Filippo Inzaghi scored twice, first from a deflected Andrea Pirlo free kick and then after running onto a pass from Kaká. Liverpool pulled one back late through Dirk Kuyt, but Milan held on to win 2–1 and claim their seventh European Cup.

For Inzaghi, it was particularly special. Two years after missing the Istanbul final through injury, he became the hero of Athens.

For Paolo Maldini, Kaká, Andrea Pirlo, Clarence Seedorf, Alessandro Nesta and the rest of Ancelotti’s legendary side, the night represented redemption.

The white shirt became the symbol of it.

A Shirt Built for a European Night

The design perfectly captures the aesthetic of mid-2000s adidas football. A clean white base is framed by distinctive red and black Formotion piping, while the black adidas logo and large bwin sponsor create a bold contrast across the front. The AC Milan crest sits above the club’s famous red-and-black identity, crowned by the European champion's star.

The version shown here also features the special “Champions League – The Final Athens 2007” commemorative detail, connecting the shirt directly to the night Milan reclaimed European glory.
