FC Internazionale Milano 2009/10 Away Jersey

Some football shirts become iconic because of their design. Others become iconic because of what happened while they were being worn.

The FC Internazionale Milano 2009/10 Away Jersey is both. Its clean white design, horizontal Nerazzurri band and classic polo collar belong to one of the most memorable seasons in European football — the season when Inter conquered Italy and Europe to complete the historic Treble.

The Story Behind the Jersey

The 2009/10 season was the beginning of something extraordinary for Inter.

Under José Mourinho, the Nerazzurri had built a team based on tactical discipline, experience and devastating counterattacking football. Javier Zanetti, Maicon, Lúcio, Walter Samuel, Esteban Cambiasso, Wesley Sneijder, Samuel Eto'o and Diego Milito formed the core of a side that would eventually make history.

Inter had already won the Serie A title four consecutive times, but European glory had remained out of reach for decades.

That changed in 2010.

Inter won the Coppa Italia, then secured their fifth consecutive Scudetto on the final day of the Serie A season. Diego Milito scored the decisive goal against Siena to seal the championship and keep the dream of the Treble alive.

The Champions League campaign became legendary.

After defeating Chelsea and CSKA Moscow, Inter faced defending champions Barcelona in the semi-finals. A 3–1 victory at San Siro gave Mourinho's side the advantage, and despite losing 1–0 at Camp Nou, Inter reached the final.

Then came Madrid.

On 22 May 2010, Inter faced Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabéu. Bayern controlled much of the possession, but Inter were clinical.

In the 35th minute, Wesley Sneijder found Diego Milito, who beat the Bayern defense and calmly finished to give Inter the lead.

Twenty minutes from full time, Milito produced another unforgettable moment. He received the ball, turned the defender and finished into the corner.

Inter 2–0 Bayern Munich.

Two goals from Milito. One European Cup. Forty-five years of waiting finally over.

And with that victory, Inter completed the Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League Treble — becoming the first Italian club ever to achieve it and only the sixth European club at the time.

For captain Javier Zanetti, the moment was even more symbolic. The Champions League triumph came in his 700th appearance for Inter, as the 36-year-old captain finally lifted the European trophy the club had been chasing for 45 years.

The Away Shirt of a Historic Season

The design is completely different from the traditional Nerazzurri home shirt, but it remains unmistakably Inter.

A clean white base provides the foundation, while a wide horizontal blue-and-black band crosses the chest. Blue detailing appears around the sleeve cuffs, while the white polo collar gives the shirt a distinctive late-2000s football aesthetic. The Nike Swoosh and Pirelli sponsor complete the classic look.

There is also an important historical detail in the crest.

During the 2009/10 season, Inter celebrated the 100th anniversary of their first Italian championship, and the club crest was surrounded by the colors of the Italian flag — green, white and red.

That makes this more than simply a white alternative to the famous striped home shirt.

It is a shirt from the season of Mourinho, Milito, Sneijder and Zanetti.

The season of the fifth consecutive Scudetto.

The season Inter finally conquered Europe again.
