Some football shirts become symbols of a season. Others become symbols of an entire generation.
The FC Internazionale Milano 2009/10 Home Jersey is one of those shirts. It was worn during the greatest season in modern Inter history — the year José Mourinho's side conquered Italy and Europe to complete the historic treble.
The Story Behind the Jersey
The 2009/10 season began with a familiar objective: win another Serie A title. But under José Mourinho, Inter were building something much bigger.
The squad combined experience, physical strength and extraordinary tactical discipline. Javier Zanetti, Walter Samuel, Lúcio, Maicon, Esteban Cambiasso, Wesley Sneijder, Samuel Eto'o and Diego Milito formed the backbone of a team that would eventually become European champions.
Inter won the Serie A title and the Coppa Italia, but the Champions League was the trophy the club had been waiting for.
Inter's European journey became legendary.
They eliminated Chelsea in the Round of 16, defeated CSKA Moscow in the quarter-finals and then faced defending champions Barcelona in the semi-finals. After winning 3–1 at San Siro, Inter defended their advantage at Camp Nou to reach the final.
Then came Madrid.
On 22 May 2010, Inter faced Bayern Munich at the Santiago Bernabéu.
The final belonged to Diego Milito.
In the 35th minute, the Argentine striker controlled a long ball from Wesley Sneijder, held off the Bayern defense and calmly finished to put Inter ahead.
With 20 minutes remaining, Milito produced another unforgettable moment. He received the ball, turned his defender and drove into the box before finishing into the corner.
Inter 2–0 Bayern Munich.
Two goals from Milito. One European Cup for Inter.
But the significance went far beyond the final.
The victory ended a 45-year wait for Inter's third European Cup. More importantly, it completed the first Serie A, Coppa Italia and Champions League treble in the club's history. Inter became only the sixth club in European Cup history to accomplish the feat.
At the center of it all was Javier Zanetti.
The legendary captain lifted the trophy at the end of his 700th appearance for Inter, bringing an extraordinary chapter of his career to its perfect conclusion.
And for Mourinho, it was his second European Cup as a manager, after his 2004 triumph with Porto.
The Shirt of the Treble
The design is unmistakably Inter.
Classic black and royal blue vertical stripes dominate the body, while the Nike Swoosh, Pirelli sponsor and club crest create the unmistakable Nerazzurri identity of the late 2000s.
This particular version carries an even more special connection to the Champions League final, featuring the commemorative “FINAL MADRID 2010 – 22 MAY – ESTADIO SANTIAGO BERNABÉU” detail across the chest.
It is a shirt that captures an extraordinary collection of memories:
Mourinho on the touchline.
Sneijder conducting the midfield.
Maicon dominating the right side.
Zanetti lifting the trophy.
Milito scoring twice in Madrid.
And above everything else:
The Treble.
The 2009/10 Inter shirt isn't simply a vintage jersey. It is a piece of the season that brought the European crown back to Inter after 45 years.
