The Liverpool FC 2018/19 home jersey is the shirt of a season that changed the club's modern history. It was worn by Jürgen Klopp's Liverpool during an extraordinary campaign that combined a club-record 97 points in the Premier League with a spectacular run to the Champions League title. In Madrid, this red shirt became part of the story of Liverpool's sixth European Cup.
The Story Behind the Jersey
The 2018/19 season was the moment Klopp's Liverpool truly announced themselves as one of Europe's elite.
The team had already reached the Champions League final the previous season, but the defeat to Real Madrid in Kyiv left unfinished business. Liverpool returned in 2018/19 with a stronger and more mature squad, led by Mohamed Salah, Sadio Mané, Roberto Firmino, Virgil van Dijk, Alisson Becker and Jordan Henderson.
In the Premier League, Liverpool produced one of the greatest campaigns in English football history. They lost only one league match and finished with 97 points, yet still finished second behind Manchester City. The title race went all the way to the final day.
Europe, however, would provide redemption.
After navigating the group stage, Liverpool eliminated Bayern Munich in the round of 16 before facing Porto and then Barcelona. The semi-final appeared almost impossible after Barcelona won the first leg 3–0 at Camp Nou.
Then came Anfield, 7 May 2019.
Liverpool produced one of the most extraordinary comebacks in Champions League history, defeating Barcelona 4–0 through goals from Divock Origi and Georginio Wijnaldum. The famous quickly taken corner from Trent Alexander-Arnold created Origi's second goal and completed a 4–3 aggregate comeback.
Six days later, Liverpool returned to Madrid for the final.
On 1 June 2019, at the Estadio Metropolitano, Liverpool faced Tottenham Hotspur in an all-English Champions League final. Mohamed Salah scored from the penalty spot inside the opening two minutes, and Divock Origi sealed the victory late in the match.
Liverpool won 2–0 and lifted their sixth European Cup.
It was Jürgen Klopp's first major trophy with Liverpool and the beginning of a new era for the club.
The shirt itself perfectly captures that period. New Balance retained the deep, rich red introduced for Liverpool's 125th anniversary season, while adding subtle linear graphics inspired by the architecture of the redeveloped Main Stand at Anfield. The traditional two-button polo collar gave the jersey a distinctly retro character.
The result is a shirt that represents more than a Champions League victory. It represents the transformation of Liverpool from a team rebuilding under Klopp into European champions once again.
