Some shirts become legendary because of the trophies they represent. Others become legendary because they are forever connected to a single moment.

The Real Madrid 2013/14 Home Jersey is both. This is the shirt of La Décima — the season when Real Madrid finally ended a 12-year wait for their tenth European Cup and created one of the most dramatic Champions League finals ever played.

The Story Behind the Jersey

Real Madrid entered the 2013/14 season carrying an enormous expectation.

The club had not won the European Cup since 2002. Three consecutive Champions League semi-final defeats had followed, and the dream of La Décima — the tenth European title — had become almost an obsession for Madridistas.

With Carlo Ancelotti now in charge, a new generation was ready to write its own chapter.

Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, Karim Benzema, Luka Modrić, Ángel Di María, Sergio Ramos and Iker Casillas formed the core of a team that combined extraordinary individual talent with a devastating counterattacking style.

And in Europe, Real Madrid were unstoppable.

They scored heavily throughout the group stage before eliminating Schalke, Borussia Dortmund and then defending champions Bayern Munich.

The semi-final against Bayern became one of the defining performances of the campaign.

At the Allianz Arena, Real Madrid produced a stunning 4–0 victory, with Sergio Ramos scoring twice and Cristiano Ronaldo adding two more. Madrid reached their first Champions League final in 12 years with a 5–0 aggregate victory over the reigning champions.

Then came Lisbon.

Lisbon, 24 May 2014

For the first time in Champions League history, the final was an all-Madrid affair.

Real Madrid faced city rivals Atlético Madrid at the Estádio da Luz.

Atlético took the lead through Diego Godín in the 36th minute. As the clock moved toward the final whistle, Real Madrid were staring at another European heartbreak.

Then came the 93rd minute.

Luka Modrić delivered a corner into the penalty area.

Sergio Ramos rose above everyone.

His header found the net.

1–1.

Real Madrid had been given another chance.

And once extra time began, the momentum completely changed.

In the 110th minute, Gareth Bale headed in to put Madrid ahead. Marcelo added a third, before Cristiano Ronaldo converted a penalty in the final minute.

Real Madrid 4–1 Atlético Madrid.

The long wait was finally over.

La Décima.

Real Madrid had won their tenth European Cup, twelve years after Zidane's famous volley in Glasgow. Cristiano Ronaldo finished the competition with a record 17 goals, while Carlo Ancelotti became only the second coach to win the European Cup three times.

For Sergio Ramos, the night became the defining moment of his Real Madrid career.

For Casillas, it meant lifting the trophy as captain.

For Cristiano Ronaldo, Bale and the new generation, it marked the beginning of a period of European dominance that would soon produce even more Champions League titles.

The Shirt of La Décima

Real Madrid's 2013/14 home shirt is a beautiful example of the club's traditional identity.

The iconic white body is complemented by dark grey adidas shoulder stripes, while subtle orange detailing around the collar and sleeve cuffs gives the shirt a distinctive touch. The orange trim was introduced specifically for this generation of the Real Madrid kit.

The Fly Emirates sponsor sits across the chest, while the classic Real Madrid crest occupies the heart of the shirt.

The design is relatively understated — but that makes its history even more powerful.

This was the shirt worn by:

Ronaldo scoring 17 Champions League goals.
Ramos scoring the goal of the 93rd minute.
Bale completing the comeback.
Marcelo celebrating the third.
Casillas lifting La Décima.

It is the shirt of the night Real Madrid had been waiting for since 2002.
